Ortho Consulting Group were invited, as part of an initiative to build a Senior Leadership Team, to find an International FD and International FC.
Our brief was to find commercial and strategic business leaders to be a finance experts, be active members of the management team, and who could lead the international finance function. In both cases, we needed to find senior Finance executives who were not only exceptional accountants and hands-on with company finances but individuals who were also be able to demonstrate they are commercially aware, advising on the best path of growth for the business.
There was a clear requirement to find experts who could work ‘in’ the business, and ‘on’ the business. Today’s Senior finance executives in the medical device industry must be forward-looking, drivers of strategic thinking and finding growth opportunities.
What we learnt during this search was that our candidates needed to demonstrate the ability to cope with change and the ability to respond according to the changing nature of the role of finance; one day it can be commercial, tomorrow it can be entrepreneurial, the next focused on detail in numbers and data. Whatever the scope, today’s outstanding FD is a vital person in a successful organisation.
