American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) 2022 Specialty Day: New vs. the Tried and True

March 26, 2022 All day

The 2022 ASSH / AAHS Specialty Day Program will focus on understanding the balance between innovation and relying on evidence-based options. The day will start by reviewing Scott’s Parabola and the Gartner Hype Cycle as they apply to hand and upper extremity surgery, setting the theme for a day filled with robust talks about the “New vs. the Tried and True”.

Following the discussions on product development, the remainder of the session will cover the areas of hand surgery seeing the most innovation within the domains of nerve, instability, trauma, arthritis, and tendon. Experienced surgeons will be exposed to what’s on the cutting edge, while young surgeons will gain perspective on why new isn’t always better.  Panelists will share cases illustrating why they’ve adopted new techniques or devices, and what evidence to look for when making those decisions.
