25 May Extremity Medical Expands into Trauma Market
PARSIPPANY, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Extremity Medical, a global medical device company focused on the development of innovative implants and instruments for upper and lower extremities, today announced the release of the OMNI™ Stable Ankle Fracture (AF) System.
Ankle fractures are increasingly common injuries requiring careful approaches for proper management. It is estimated that in 2021 over 152,000 ankle fractures occurred in the United States that required internal fixation. This rate is projected to continue, most likely due to growth in the number of people involved in athletics and a larger population of older adults who are more prone to ankle and other lower extremity injuries.
“Extremity Medical has focused on developing a state-of-the-art ankle fracture system that offers surgeons an anatomic implant solution for every fracture location,” said Matthew Lyons, Extremity Medical Chief Executive Officer, Founder and Chairman of the Board. “Additionally, our team designed fixation options to enhance construct stability for patients with poor bone quality or segmental bone loss.”
The OMNI Stable AF System offers a wide variety of low-profile anatomic plates that closely match patient anatomy and minimize soft tissue impingement. The proprietary Stability Post technology design allows optimized stability for patients with poor bone quality, and/or segmental bone loss. In addition, the system provides surgeons with an extensive selection of bone reduction instruments to accommodate even the most difficult cases.
The OMNI Stable AF System was designed in conjunction with an accomplished team of surgeons with extensive ankle fracture treatment experience, including: Timothy Charlton, MD; Charles Moon, MD; and Max Michalski, MD, from Los Angeles; David Garras, MD, from Chicago and Brian Straus, MD from Dallas – Fort Worth.
